Why Thayer Nursery Kiln-Dried Firewood?

by Thayer Nursery

Because there is a difference!

Thayer Nursery Kiln-Dried Firewood is a mix of hardwoods, including beech, birch, maple, oak, and ash. Each log is cut to 16 inches, split, and then kiln dried for three days, reducing its moisture content to below 25%! As a result, Thayer Nursery Kiln-Dried Firewood produces a relatively smokeless burn, allowing you to safely close your damper down. Doing so slows the burn down and keeps more heat in your house!

Thayer Nursery Kiln-Dried Firewood burns cleanly and completely, so there is less ash and less creosote buildup in your chimney! It’s also guaranteed mold, mildew, and insect free, so you can safely store it in your garage, porch, or basement! To keep it clean and dry, we store our kiln-dried firewood in a covered barn all season long.

Regular firewood is left outside for an indeterminate amount of time to “season” it down to an unspecified moisture content. Thayer Nursery Kiln-Dried Firewood is 100% kiln-dried… we do not mix. The only way to sell firewood cheaply is to cut corners on quantity and quality… we will not.

A “cord” is defined as “a loosely stacked pile of split firewood measuring 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet, equaling 128 cubic feet.” There is no standard definition for a “face cord”, but it should be about a third of a true cord. Beware of sellers offering face cords or “4 x 8” quantities! A face cord price should be multiplied by 3 to determine its true, full cord price.

Thayer Nursery Kiln-Dried Firewood is delivered in quarter cord increments starting with one quarter cord and going up to 2 whole cords per delivery per house. Please call us at 617-698-2005 x1 for delivered pricing.

If you’ve never burned our wood before and want to test it, stop by the Nursery… we sell Thayer Nursery Kiln-Dried Firewood in varying amounts that range in price starting at only $20. Take some home in your vehicle and see just how well it burns! That way, you’ll know exactly what comes in a delivery. Don’t get “burned” with an unusable load from elsewhere!
